I, like many others have served my country.
However when I served there were no "wars".
I did drills, war games, helped clean up oil spills,
whatever Uncle Sam said a "peace time" solider was needed to do.
At the Governments expense I got to see lots of far away places,
helping other 3rd world countries build themselves.
After my time had been served I retired,
thankful that I had never had to use the skills I was trained with to harm another.
However if I had been called to do so I would have.
Not because I like playing war,
but because I believe in what this country we call home stands for.
Now I sit and watch as men, and women, are called to arms.
Knowing if we do infact have to fight some of my friends will return in black bags.
One evening while thinking about this my soon to be 17 year old son brought out a Calvin and Hobbes book I had bought him.
He held it out and said "Dad read this tell me what you think it means.."
It was a 8 pane cartoon, one I had seen once before.
I looked at it thinking of the events coming to pass and it made me hurt more.
My son, I said as I handed it back to him...
To me it means grown men should not play God.
It reminds me that the minds of babes often see things much better than us grown men ever will.
It is a simple statement... War is lame, it's stupid.
My son hugged me, then as he turned paused...
Then why do we have to fight Dad?
I sighed, knowing that if it comes to it I would be sending my only son to defend the freedoms we take for granted.
Because son, man does stupid things...

I do not condem the men and women that will go and serve our country.
To each of them and thier families and friends I send out prayers they will return as they left.
I do however condem the world leaders that cannot look beyond thier war games of power.
Humans are supposed to love and care for each other.
Not look for a means of destruction.
Am I any better?
No, I am not.
Why?
Because I will send my only son off when they call him.
To be a part of their "war game"
